Ben started fly fishing and tying flies when he was 11 years old and made East Tennessee his home in 1990. Ever since then, his love of the sport grew along with his skills as he chased fish on fly from Alaska to Belize, adding new fly caught species to his list (currently 101). He has been involved in the fly fishing industry since 2001 when he started tying flies and leaders commercially while working at various fly shops. His innovative fly patterns have been sold by top fly manufacturers and. His tackle rigging and custom leaders have been responsible for many world records, including two world records on fly himself (Spanish mackerel, Mutton snapper) and when asked why they were not submitted, he replied: “I didn’t know they were records at the time, but they sure were delicious.” When he is not in the shop talking about fly fishing, he spends his time on the South Holston and Watauga rivers or chasing stripers in Boone Lake.
Jon is a native to East Tennessee, born and raised in the South Holston Valley. Jon grew up fishing all of the local waters, especially the South Holston and Watauga Rivers. He knows these waters like the back of his hand, having spent the past 29 years building his intimate knowledge of the rivers and honing his tactics to produce trophy trout. He decided to help other fly fisherman looking to further their own knowledge of fly fishing and our amazing waters in 2001 when he went full time as a fly fishing instructor and guide. He is very well respected among other guides and is known for his patience with clients and his skill at consistently producing good numbers of quality fish.
Jonathan “Huck” Huckaba
Huck is an East Tennessee native and started his fly fishing career in 1996 at the age of 16 on the small streams in Roan Mountain chasing brook trout and learning to present a fly in tight quarters. He later discovered the phenomenal fishing on the Watauga and South Holston Rivers. While he learned to catch the trophy trout on the larger rivers, he still returned to the mountain streams to chase the elusive native “brookies.” Huck is a signature fly designer for Holly Fly Company. He also volunteers for Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing, Inc. and enjoys helping disabled veterans get out on the water.
Mike has been fishing the local waters for over 35 years and consistently shows his clients a great time on the water. He is an expert in all things trout and smallmouth bass as well as the night game for trophy brown and rainbow trout. Mike is also known to regale his clients with unbelievable tales from his colorful past as he is not just a very talented angler. Mike is a highly decorated Army veteran that has traveled the world. Mike also holds multiple world records in sky diving and high diving and is always planning the next big jump. He is a wonderful person to be around and always entertaining on the boat ride down the river.
Charlie Parker Guide
A native of East Tennessee, he grew up on the South Holston River. He fished with conventional tackle for years until he caught his first fish on fly. Ever since, Charlie devotes most of his time developing new flies and tactics for catching striped bass, hybrids, carp and gar. He is patient beyond his years and loves to see conventional fisherman catch their first fish on the fly. His knowledge of the local rivers and lakes is astounding and he is constantly catching bigger and more fish.
